Quality Function Deployment

What is house of quality??

QFD is a methodology for defining the customer’s desires in the customer’s own voice, prioritizing these desires, translating them into engineering requirements, and establishing targets for meeting the requirements.

Steps in QFD Method:

1. Determining Customer Needs

Goal: Develop a complete list of all requirements

2. Determining Relative Importance of the needs (Done)

Goal: Evaluate importance of each needs

3. Competition Benchmarking (Done)

Goal: Determine how the customer perceives the competition’s ability to meet the requirements

4. Translating Customer Need into Product Specifications

Goal: Develop set of engineering requirements (design specifications) that are measurable

5. Setting Engineering Targets for the Design

Goal: Determine target values for each engineering requirements

Result Analysis

As we can see, there are many problems when we do survey among students, staffs and lecturers. this is because they are not agree to each other.

For the first part, which is either all of this member are driving a car or not. There are some people who didn't bring car so they cannot give exact answer either they has a problem or not during find a parking. So when this happen other answer also could be affected.

Second part that has create many problem is about the restriction group. For your information, according to IIUM rules and regulations only 3rd year and above are qualified to bring car inside the campus. However, many students neglected this rule for their own benefits. Furthermore, sticker are not compulsory right now so many students bring car illegally.

Another problem occur during this survey is most of the staffs only agree to use this system only for staffs and lecturers. For them students already stay inside the campus so they just need to walk to campus rather than being staffs which stay outside and they need to use their own transport to come here.

Many students agree about this automatic barrier system because this will make sure that only person who has an access are able to enter this Kulliyyah. More over they also agree on this project because many of them think that 4th year and postgraduate are senior students so they has priority.

In this part we only give 2 types of gates which is automatic or manual. Te result show to automatic more than manual. This is because it can manage the time so that they dont have to wait for someone to open it for them. but people who agree on manual barrier said that it is good so that IIUM security can stay here to open this barrier.

About identification, more of people agree on matric/staff card. this is because they can easily used it and of course they dont have to forget to bring it to campus. other identification like physical and plate number are very hard because sometimes there will be instrumentation failure and those who are legally can enter this Kulliyyah has difficulties.
Lastly, many of them agree that this automatic barrier system will solve parking problem. They think that only several people can enter this kulliyyah and this time parking lot will be enough for them.

There also suggestion that we can use access card to enter this kulliyyah. This is very easy also because visitor who has permit also can enter this kulliyyah. Other suggestion is IIUM should build a parking lot for Kulliyyah so that all students can bring their can and park at theie parking lot.

Result??? Good or No Good??

We already divide our result into several parts which is
  • Total of the people who do this survey
  • Drive car or not
  • Has problem with parking
  • Restriction agreement
  • Agree on this project
  • Types of gates
  • Types of identification
  • Does this problem solved?

Survey Form

In this week, we need to do our survey about our topics. In this survey we try to make every level of students, staffs and lecturers involved.

Below is our survey form which are distributed around 60 pages.
Students + Staffs + Lecturers

Management and Documentation

There are many ways how we want to divide work so that each member will has her own role in this project. Below is Linear Responsibility Chart, which each team members already has their own task and they need to fulfill it in order to make this project works.

Then we proceed with Gantt Chart. this chart is use to list all the activities that we going to do and time that we are going to take to finish it.

Team Calendar

In this section, we need to manage our time so that we are able to finish this project on time. below is our team calendar.

First Step A Head

when we start to do this project, we need to has our own plan to make sure this project will success..
First of all we need to declare our Work Breakdown Structure. This is to make sure that we will do this project accordingly to its flow..

After finish doing this Work Breakdown Structure, we need to define our problem and why we choose this project title.
As we can see there are many problems of locating car because a lot of students bring car to the Kulliyyah. Other than that there are students who take staffs parking so, staffs will park anywhere. Then they will face compound from IIUM traffics. That's why we come out with this idea so that not all people are allowed to parking inside the Kulliyyah. They need to have Access to enter Kulliyah parking lot.
Our target groups are Fourt year and Postgraduate Students, Staffs and Lecturers.
However, by implemented this system, it can cause traffic jammed because every body need to clarify their access card so that they can enter.
